Advisory Board
For close to 30 years, the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has benefited from a strong and active Business Advisory Board. Composed of representatives from varying Boston area businesses and industries, the Business Advisory Board advises the Horace Mann Technical and Transitional Services Department about employment trends, projected job-growth opportunities and potential opportunities for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. You can find more information about the process at 123helpme.org.
Business Advisory Boards, mandated by the Carl D. Perkins Federal Vocational Educational Act, are a required component of schools that receive federal vocational grant money. The role of the Business Advisory Board is to provide recommendations and insight on all aspects of the industry, providing information and input on current technology, practices and procedures that a school vocational program needs to stay current.
The Horace Mann’s Business Advisory Board is a product of its long-time association with the Association of Information and Image Management –New England (AIIM-NE) and the Document Management industry. Starting with the initial contacts in the then state-of-the-art Micrographics field, Horace Mann has continued its partnership as the industry has evolved through numerous changes to it’s present state as AIIM-NE.
AIIM-NE and the Horace Mann Business Advisory Board have been instrumental in the continued success of the Document Imaging Program at the Horace Mann. Providing equipment, supplies and sound advice, the Horace Mann Business Advisory Board has been instrumental in the continued growth of the Document Imaging Program as it has become one of the strongest in the country.
In addition to equipment and advice, the Horace Mann Business Advisory Board has provided the Horace Mann students with numerous Internship opportunities that afford our students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience outside the Horace Mann campus prior to graduation.
Meeting 3 times a year, the Business Advisory Board gives the Horace Mann Technical and Transitional Services Department the opportunity to prosper and continue its vibrant and dynamic programming.
