Successes
Annette Posell has worked at WGBH for 25 years and is a member of the team whose work changed life for Deaf people through captioning. When she began working at WGBH, there was almost no captioning: now the law requires that everything on TV must be captioned. It's a lot of work, but Annette is proud to be a part of it.
Challenges
Annette’s biggest challenge was learning to be a Deaf person in a hearing world. When she was younger, she had no TTY, Sidekick, pager, computer, or interpreters as we have now. She feels that technology has helped to improve communication between Deaf and hearing people.
Advice to Horace Mann Students
“Do the best you can all the time. Be a good person. Take care of your friends, family, and yourself. Be nice, kind, and honest. Take advantage of the many opportunities available to you. With technology and legislation, you can do anything you want to do.”
